Rosskopf – Double case – 22061 – Men's pocket watch – 1850-1900

Beautiful W. Rosskopf & C. pocket watch – Period: 1876 – In perfect condition and fully functioning. With double case in steel/silver, bearing the words "Rosskopf & C Patent" in relief, with serial number 1719, Swiss movement 22061. With silver watch chain. Dial size: 5.3 cm - Case cover diameter: 5 cm - Watch weight (excluding silver chain): 94 g - Silver chain weight: approx. 14 g A video of the Rosskopf at work with the mechanical movement working is available on request. This historic pocket watch takes its name from the German inventor George Frederic Roskopf (with one "s"), creator of the movement for pocket watches. The trick of the double "s" on this late 19th century watch helped to get around the problem of the inventor's registered brand. An unusual feature of this model of watch is that the hours are commonly indicated with Roman numbers, but 4 o'clock, if you notice, is depicted with "IIII" and not "IV". This was the preferred method of the inventor, who used it to create symmetrical graphics. There was also a historic reason, however: in the south, such a number helped poor, uneducated people tell the time. A particular detail: In the Italian film of the mythical TOTO', "La banda degli onesti" by Camillo Mastrocinque (1956), the great Principe De Curtis had one of these Roskopf pocket watches (that he pawned at the Banco dei Pegni in exchange for a 10,000 bank note). Available. Insured shipping with tracking.
