Nicolaas van Yperen was a house painter until the Second World War started.
As a hobby, he also was a successful art painter.
During the Second World War, it seemed like he would have had to work for the Germans.
A cousin of Nicolaas van Yperen, who worked for the resistance and worked at the town hall, fiddled with the administration so he could stay in Rotterdam.
From that moment onward, Nicolaas van Yperen was an entrepreneur.

He has kept his dealership running until his death in 1969.
