Gold tenner Wilhelmina 1897 in gold pendant
Golden tenner Queen Wilhelmina (1897). The golden tenner has a weight of 6.7200 grams with a 90% grade (.900) and a 22.5 mm diameter. The hanging material is also made of gold.
From 1815 to 1933, the gold tenners were seen as official Dutch coins. The last gold tenner was struck in 1933. These last years, milions were struck every year. In 1932, over 4 milion gold tenners were struck. This means that gold tenners hold little collection value any more. Still, there are several years that are wanted or even heavily sought after. The year 1897 is one of those.
The gold tenner of Queen Wilhelmina was struck between 1892 and 1933 in four different edition and print runs varying from some to many milions. The gold tenner from 1897 is a special one, as only 453,696 coins of it were struck.
The head of the coin show the portrait of Wilhelmina, after the design by W.J. Schammer, as a girl with long, hanging hear, looking to the left. Above the portrait it reads 'GOD ZIJ MET ONS', and below it 'KONINGIN WILHELMINA'. The tail side shows the crowned Dutch coat of arms with the coinmaker's mark below the halberd, the year 1897 and the Mercury staff of the coin Utrecht.
