The “Minghetti” manufactory for the production of aristic ceramics was founded by Angelo Minghetti (1822-1885) in 1858 in a tiny pottery furnace in Montagnola, near Bologna.
In 1869 Angelo Minghetti displayed some of his works at the Exhibition of Agriculture and Industry of Bologna and the following year he attended the Art Exhibition in Rome.
In 1873 he was at the World Exhibition of Vienna.
A few years later Angelo Bucci, a pottery maker from Imola, invited Angelo Minghetti to move to his furnace which was bigger and better equipped.
In 1877, after leaving Imola, Minghetti returned to Bologna and opened his workshop in Porta San Vitale.
In the same year, his manufactory displayed some works at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Naples and the following year at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
In 1880 the manufactory participated to the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Turin, in 1881 in Milan and in 1883 in Rome.
Angelo Minghetti died in 1885 and the factory management was passed to his sons Gennaro and Arturo. The manufactory participated in 1888 at the Italian Exhibition in London; in 1898 at the Exhibition of Sacred Art in Turin; in 1899 at the Exhibition of Architecture in Bologna; in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
In 1902 the manufactory participated to the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative Art in Turin and in 1904 at the World Exhibition of Saint Louis and the Italian Exhibition in London.
From 1906 to 1916, manufactory was managed by Aurelio, Gennaro's son, and under his management the factory increased the number of employees, the production registered its maximum growth and the number of works sent to foreign markets increased.
In 1908 the manufactory was renamed “Ceramiche Artistiche Angelo Minghetti & Figli".
