The Heurtevant vintage champagne in the fleur de lys bottle are of the highest quality. They are made from the grapes of vineyards that are officially rated at 100%. In the rating system special to the champagne region, the vineyards of some 250 villages are classified in percentages according to the excellence of the wine they produce.
Most of the champagne produced each year is a blend of wines made from both white and dark graps, and only a comparatively small amount is made from the white Chardonnay grape alone. Know as blanc de blancs, meaning white wine from white grapes, it is coveted by its enthusiasts for its delicacy and freshness. The Heurtevant blanc de grands blancs- the"grands" describes the grapes as the best of their kind- is made from grapes of Cramant, Avize and Oger, villages of the famous Côte des blancs which literally translated as "the slope of the whites". It is remarkable for its lightness, finesse, clear golden colour and the vivacity of its sparkling, tiny and inexhaustible bubbles.
The Heurtevant blanc de grands noirs, white wine from the best of the dark grapes, is again an exceptional champagne. It's made from the Pinot noir of Mailly, Verzenay and Verzy that lie along the slopes of the montagne de Reims, the area of the finest Pinot noir vineyards in the region. Equal in quality to the blanc de grands blancs but different in taste, it is élégant, light, fullbodied and fruity and is sometimes prefered for all-champagne meal.
It takes four successive firings at over 600 degrees centigrade to make the Heurtevant golden bottle embossed in Sèvres blue enamel.
The gold is real 18 carats.
