Cornelis Le Mair (1944) - Stilleven met kan en appels
Cornelis Wilhelmus Antonius Maria (Cees) le Mair (Eindhoven, 3 July 1944) was a Dutch artist. As a child, Le Mair already developed a talent for drawing. After going through high school, he attended the art academy in 's-Hertogenbosch where he hoped to improve his painting techniques. He left the academy, because he found that it almost exclusively taught 'free expression'. He was advised to move to the Royal Academy of fine arts in Antwerp, where the old craft of painting was still being taught. He found a mentor in professor Victor Dolphijn in the field of craft techniques of old masters.
In 1968, Le Mair graduated with honours for portrait, still life and figure painting. In 1973, Le Mair established himself as an independent painter in an old farmhouse near his hometown Eindhoven. The style in which he worked was called traditional artisan according to himself.
The general public much appreciated his work and he received many assignments to do portraits. He has also arranged exhibitions in galleries and museums that attracted a large audience.
In addition to his profession, painting of portraits, figures, still lifes and a single landscape, he, at times, concerned himself with the architecture, making images, building musical instruments and the manufacturing furniture. He also did several publications about the art of painting.
