Mechanical - 8 day movement - half-hourly striking mechanism on gong
French marble pendulum clock from the 1880s.
The clock has an eight-day movement with half-hourly striking mechanism on bell, fitted with a Brocot escapement.
The movement was recently cleaned, serviced and oiled and runs perfectly.
The marble case has a couple of damages to the left corner (see detailed photo).
The hinges of the door on the side have unfortunately collapsed under the weight of the door; the door will stay closed though.
Resting escapement invented by Achille Brocot (1817–1878) with semicircular pins of agate or synthetic ruby, which are placed perpendicular to the escapement wheel. The escapement was patented in 1840 and was frequently used in French mantel clocks with a Namur hardstone case. It is often visibly applied in the dial. In which case they are described as: 'éschappement visible' or 'mouvement visible'.
Comes with a winding key.
