Mainline History:
The Series BB 9200, 1500 V DC electric locomotives, were built by Schneider-Jeumont/CM between 1958 and 1964. A total of 92 were built, of which are 20 are still in use today. These locomotives were the product of the Jacquemin family, descendants of the prototype BB 9004, and are named after the engineer who has designed the bogies of these locomotives. The locomotives were designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h and were the first of their kind in use in France. In the late 1960s a small number of these locomotives were modified to achieve a top speed of 200 km/h, for pulling the prestigious TEE trains. These locomotives were re-named as the BB 9200 Capitole. Later they were eventually replaced by the CC 6500 locomotives. Some of the BB 9200 locomotives have travelled up to 10 million kilometres since they were taken into service.
