Mainline History: More than 6000 units of the Baureihe 52 were manufactured between 1942 and 1945, both in Germany and by foreign locomotive manufacturers. The locomotive was able to pull freight trains with a total weight of 635 tons over flat terrain, at a speed of 80 km/h. Even on slopes of 10%, they could still pull 415 tons at a speed of 50 km/h. Because so many of these "Kriegslokomotief" locomotives were manufactured during the Second World War, they could be found not only in Germany, but also in the rest of Europe after the war ended. Because the locomotives had to constantly adapt to international requirements, various different liveries and technical specifications of this locomotive were produced during this time. In various areas in Russia and the Baltic States so-called strategic reserves were held by the Red Army of the Soviet Union. These strategic reserve assets comprised numbers of operationally maintained and preserved locomotives, which could then serve reserves for use in crisis situations. Of the Baureihe 52 alone, there were more than 100 held at different locations with their smoke-stacks aimed at the West. The TE-3915 with number 10422830 (Märklin model 37159) was constructed in 1944 by the locomotive construction firm Orenstein & Koppel in Berlin. At the end of the Second World War this locomotive was in Czechoslovakia and was then transferred as spoils of war to the USSR. In Russia, she was converted to the 1542 mm gauge, and she was then placed in ordinary service and deployed in the Ukraine until 1962. When she was taken over by the strategic reserve, she was re-converted to the normal gauge of 1435 mm in February 1996, and then stationed in Altenbeken in Sauerland.
