HISTORY
This is the first Breuer seat in steel tube, and is generally referred to as the first armchair with a metallic structure, although in 1923 Gerhard Stüttgen had already presented a cantilever chair, and in 1922 Harry Nolan was granted a patent in the US for a cantilever chair in steel tubing. This Breuer chair is, however, the oldest metal-tube chair still in production. The chair bears the name 'Wassily' because it is said that it was designed for the home of Wassily Kandinsky at the Bauhaus. From its first version in 1925, the model underwent various modifications, until its current version which dates back to 1927. This armchair was initially produced by Standard Möbel, a business founded by Hungarian architect Kolmar Lengyel and Marcel Breuer to produce and sell the latter's metal furniture. In 1929, Standard Möbel was incorporated by Thonet.
